New receiver station

The new Tripod meets expectations in data quality and improved results. Based on the offshore experience of the previous years, PetroMarker has developed a new receiver station , the Tripod Mk 3, which has better performances in terms of rigidity, noise floor and verticality. This new tripod was entirely designed, fabricated and tested in-house. A credit to PetroMarker’s technical teams!

Tripod Design Criteria

Petromarker's Tripods have been designed to meet the following criteria:

  • Noise level <10nV after stacking of data,
  • Low noise is important to increase the depth of investigation in the ground,
  • Verticality < 0,1 degree,
  • Verticality is also important as PetroMarker’s technology is based on thevertical component of the EM field. Un-sufficient verticality sees the data corrupted by the horizontal component. Since the sea-bed is not necessarily horizontal, a pendulum mast inside the tripod rectifies the verticality,
  • Stiffness to avoid parasite vibrations.

A ”sock” installed around the pendulum eliminates the negative effects of bottom sea currents, without affecting the fields. The lower frame of the Tripod supports all the pressure bottles which house the electronic equipment, the batteries. Attitude measurement sensors and a subsea fiber optic connector for data downloading are also placed on the bottom frame. The  entire Tripods are made of non-ferrous material.

Through continuous improvements of its receivers, PetroMarker has pushed the noise floor to a remarkable level. This graph shows the average  noise level on each of the three generations of Tripods:
