Field diffusion

This animation models the diffusion of an EM field generated by PetroMarker’s vertical transmitter through a simple layered structure:

  • First, a basic two-layer model.

  • Then, with a resistive layer incorporated in the basic model.

The transmitter (not indicated) is located in the upper left corner of the lower panel, on the seabed. The blue triangles represent three PetroMarker’s tripod receivers.

The big lower panel demonstrates the propagation of the total field in the chosen models, after transmitter switch-off:

  • The arrows point in the direction of the field,

  • The colours visualize the strength of the vertical electric field component.

The three upper panels show the response curves as measured by the three receivers.

The deviation between the two electric field measurements demonstrates the presence of a resistive layer in the subsurface.

A realistic noise level was added to the modeled signal.
